Situation

A savvy stock market day trader needed raw stock data to perform a variety of calculations across a variety of criteria's. Many website are dedicated to providing basic stock information, but lack the ability to manipulate the detail beyond the design of the website.

A process was needed to collect and archive stock information each evening into a database to facilitate the analysis. This would allow the investor to test strategies and prepare before the next trading session.

Microsoft Access Database Solution

A solution was created utilizing Microsoft Access to data mine stock information. The database, with a connection to the Internet, interrogates a web server and parses the responding HTML (HyperText Markup Language) content and insert the information into a table. After the stock market data has been collected, a second process of using macro automation is used to calculate the key indicators before screening/studying the results.
